Wholeblend Pugliese

Italian toasting bread

Made in deliciously traditional fashion with lievito madre (natural mother yeast, in Inglese) and wholemeal durum wheat, this authentic Pugliese bread is stone-baked for distinctively dark crust. Equally delicious toasted and served as bruschetta or topped with a little butter and a generous spreading of an indulgent Crosta & Mollica conserve at breakfast.

Bakery

The gold standard of Italian toast

Wholeblend Pugliese is a twist on our signature Pane Pugliese, wholemeal durum wheat gives a nutty flavour to this loaf and bakes into a distinctively dark, crisp crust.

Made by a 70-year-old family bakery in Altamura, a walled Puglian town famous the world over for its bread, Wholeblend Pugliese is baked to a traditional recipe using wholemeal durum wheat grown locally amongst the ancient olive groves and sun-drenched vineyards. High in fibre and omega-3, a generous slice of Wholeblend Pugliese makes a brilliant base for bruschetta.

The shepherds and farmers of Puglia used to take enormous 10kg loaves to their trulli (iconic domed-roof dwellings dotted across the Puglian landscape) where the thick crust kept it fresh for up to a week. Our smaller version is altogether more portable but no less delicious. Ottimo!
