On a sweltering summer’s day in Italy, ice-cold gelato is virtually medicinal. Tartufi (or “truffles” in inglese) are southern Italy’s best-loved gelato creation – delicate yet deeply rich ice cream truffles.

In a classic flavour combination, silky hazelnut gelato – made with IGP hazelnuts – sits at the heart of this indulgent confection, encircled by a generous layer of smooth and rich dark chocolate gelato. Each tartufo is hand-rolled in a cocoa and hazelnut nib crumb, a final flourish and a welcome crunchy contrast to the creamy gelato centre.
